A collection of work by textile designer Sylvia Chalmers, comprising Glasgow School of Art student material; work-related designs and sketches; magazine clippings; calligraphy samples; a programme for an exhibition titled "A centenary exhibition to celebrate the founding of the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists in 1882"; photographs; textiles such as aprons, tote bags, placemats, tea towels, kerchiefs, curtains and a banner; and textile design samples.

  • 2 black & white photographs of unidentified people with aprons.

One item was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. Paper conservation was completed in 2019.

Thesis answering the question: "Flowers and plants have always been considered most admirable for textile design in this country. Do you agree with this statement and do you feel in view of our native tradition that it would be advisable to carry on that tradition into modern design or would other subjects be more satisfactory?"

Includes black & white and colour illustrations clipped from magazines and newspapers, postcards, pencil sketches and hand-drawn illustrations done in ink.

Some of this material was damaged in the fire in GSA's Mackintosh Building on 23rd May 2014. The items in question have been assessed by a conservator. Some paper conservation was completed in 2019, but unfortunately in some cases no remedial work is possible.
