Papers and correspondence regarding the appointment of Francis Henry Newbery as the Headmaster of the Glasgow School of Art in 1885. Includes: annotated lists of applicants for the position, 1885; correspondence from Francis Newbery about his application,1885; application CV of Francis Newbery (2 copies); Testimonials of Francis Newbery from individuals such as John Sparkes, Edward Poynter, R. Wormell, A. E. Drinkwater, John M. Knight, W. B. Barton, 1885 (4 copies); document of 'Statistics relating to Schools of Art' 1876-1880 (2 copies).

Later accessions of material relating to Francis Newbery. Material was not deposited as part of his working papers as Director of the School, but includes some working papers and correspondence from during his time as Director in addition to papers dating to after his retirement, family records and photographs, and written materials regarding Newbery.
