Herman Hambrock was a Belgian artist born 29/12/1881. Hambrock came to Glasgow from 12 Rue aux Choux Malines along with his wife Anna Hambrock and two children as Belgian Refugees between 1914 and 1920 and initially lived with Mrs Maxwell, The Manse, Cardross. Herman Hambrock attended The Glasgow School of Art between 1915 and 1919 where he took evening classes in modelling. Hambrouck lived at 21 Belgrave Street Glasgow from 1915-1919 and moved address to 46 Windsor Terrace, Glasgow where he lived from 1916-1919. Whilst Hambrouck attended The Glasgow School of Art, a Belgian Tryst fundraising event was held January 1915 in the Mackintosh Building. The event which raised funds for The Red Cross and The Belgian Relief Fund, took the form of an exhibition with various shows and activities such as a 'Belgian Market', a 'Chamber of Horrors' and a 'Lightning Artist'.
