Maclean Fleming was born Peter MacLean Fleming on 14th December 1894 in Seedhill St, Paisley, the youngest of five surviving children of Margaret Fleming (nee MacLean) and George Fleming, a skilled cloth finisher. Fleming attended The Glasgow School of in the 1914-15 session as an evening student of drawing and painting. During the First World War, Fleming served with the Scottish Rifles. Fleming later married Jean Calder Drummond and became a commercial traveller. He died in Edinburgh in 1959. MacLean Fleming is commemorated on The Glasgow School of Art's First World War Roll of Honour.
