Gertrude G Drysdale was born on 5 July 1898, and lived in Millbrae Road in Langside, Glasgow.

In 1916-17 she attended evening classes in Drawing and Painting. She is registered for that year with several other students who received free tuition because they were Continuation Class students.

In 1917-18, she continued evening drawing and painting classes, receiving a Glasgow City Educational Endowment Bursary of £3. This was one of 10 senior bursaries granted to people who had successfully completed Evening Art Continuation Classes in public or state schools in in the city. Gertrude had been attending classes at Shawlands.

There is also a record of Jeannie Douglas Drysdale, born 27 June 1892, attending day classes in design in 1913-14, Jeannie has the same address as Gertrude and is described as a student at Glasgow University.
