History

Isabel Mary Cochrane was born on 5 May, 1892 and attended Glasgow School of Art in the Drawing and Painting section for nine years between 1909 and 1918 (absent for the 1912/13 sesssion). In 1910, her home address was listed as East Park, Barrhead, but for every other year, the house name was Burnbank, Barrhead. In her first year, she studied with Alexander Jackson (Antique and Preparatory Life). Later on in her career in the school she took classes with Allan Mainds, James Huck and Prof. Britten. There appears to be no record of her obtaining her Diploma and no evidence of her exhibiting her work. It is possible that her father was Archibald Cochrane, born ca. 1861, an engineer.
