It’s good to talk

That is right, today we are plugging some of the upcoming talks by GSA Archive team members Fiona Hall (Archives and Collections Project Assistant) and Peter Trowles (Curator) who will be talking around the current exhibition in the Reid Building ground corridor, Eugène Bourdon: From Classroom to the Battlefield. There will be two lunchtime talks in the Reid Building ground floor corridor at lunchtime between 12:30 – 1pm looking at the life of Eugène Bourdon and the activities the School undertook to raise money for various war charities during the first world war. The full details for both talks are below, so pop these dates in your diaries if you would like to come along and have a chat with some of the GSA Archive team and discuss some of our amazing materials!

Our Curator Peter Trowles will provide an overview of the current exhibition Eugene Bourdon: From the Classroom to the Battlefield looking at the importance of this exhibition, the items on display and the significance of this display being staged by the School in 2016. As this exhibition shows many previously unseen works Peter will highlight one or two new discoveries that have come about since the exhibition was first announced and explain how this small exhibition forms part of a wider series of projects undertaken by the Archives and Collections looking at GSA’s contribution to the First World War.

Our Project Assistant Fiona Hall will talk about the impact of the First World War on the School and the activities that took place to raise money for various war charities. This will include discussion about our current Hone Front Memorial Project (you can read more about this on our project site under World War One) and the various fundraising efforts that happened across the School. These efforts included the Belgium Tryst which installed a Chamber of Horrors and a palmist in the Mackintosh Building, and an Exhibition on Ancient and Modern Needlecraft which displayed examples of needlecraft gathered from across the UK.

Hope to see you there!
