Gucci opens up its archive

The Italian luxury brand Gucci, now over 90 years old, has just launched a new website, GucciMuseo.com, bringing the experience of visiting Florence’s real Gucci Museum to an online audience. There is also an app version.

The brainchild of Gucci’s creative director, Frida Giannini, the real Museo in Florence is home to permanent and temporary exhibitions drawn from the brand’s archive, shown in parallel with contemporary art installations. Since its inauguration in 2011, the gallery has been so popular that Gucci has decided to extend the possibility to visit it online. The site features a digital archive of the museum’s key exhibitions and you can also check out the history of some of Gucci’s iconic items, such as timeless horsebit loafer, the iconic bamboo collection, or the Logomania gallery. In each “room,” users can find pictures of vintage pieces, videos about Gucci’s most iconic styles, and panoramic images of the real museum.

You can visit the website here. This is likely to be a useful resource both for fashion and textiles students and for those with an interest in the history of fashion.
